A giddy Mitch McConnell left the senate floor with a big thumb’s up after herding his Republican sheep in to denying witnesses to testify in the impeachment trial.
I must admit that it was an impressive feat that had Mephistopheles grinning ear to ear. The “Grim Reaper” of the political world had performed his dark arts and had emerged victorious.
I also must admit that the moment I saw that photo I wished someone would have popped out from behind a door and broken that thumb. “Take that!” they would had exclaimed. “Celebrating the dismantling of democracy. Have you no shame?”
No matter that we have entered what Adam Schiff called “Constitutional madness.”
No matter that the United States Senate had divested itself of its credibility and capacity to act as a check on the executive branch.
No matter that there has never been an impeachment trial that did not call witnesses. Since all trials have witnesses we should refrain from calling what just happened a trial and call it was: a joke and more importantly, a cover up.-
The Senate has just given the Megalomania- in-Chief free reign to roam unencumbered and sanctioned an all you can eat smorgasbord of election interference. It is like the person guarding the hen house going on a forever bathroom break allowing the fox to gorge itself. And by chance, if the attendant were to return and witness the fox biting off the heads of chickens, his response would be “yeah, he got the chickens but then again he is a fox.”
I have heard a few Republicans in the know say that if the vote to convict were secret many of them would vote affirmatively. That makes their decision to not to have witnesses or ultimately remove him from office even more heinous and cowardly. They know The Don is a menace, a danger to democracy and threatens our national security, but they are going to cover their eyes and abdicate their responsibility to the American people-75% of which wanted to see witness (including a whopping 60% of Republicans!)
How did the evil McConnell get his crew to submit?
- He threatened them with a presidential twitter storm the likes of which they have never seen.
- He told them he would pummel them to a merciless demise with his jowls.
- He promised them that The Don would hook them up with a Russian oligarch to make some fast cash. (If you recall, not to long ago, McConnell’s Kentucky received $200 million dollars from Oleg Derepaska for some business venture.)
- He showed each a doctored photo of them in a compromised situation with a sex worker.
- He promised them a life time membership to Mar-a-Lago.
The Republicans refusal to call John Bolton because, according to Senator Lamar Alexander, they already had enough facts proving that he did something inappropriate and abused his power and needed no new evidence is laughable.
Basically, McConnell and his cronies are bolted to The Don and protected him by bolting as fast as Usain Bolt before things got even worse for the president. They knew that calling Bolton was a slippery slope that they could not afford to go down, as the fire and fury of The Don was waiting for them at the bottom of the hill.
With Alan Douchawitz rambling about The Don’s shenanigans in Ukraine not rising to an impeachable offense because The Don thinks his election would be to the country’s benefit. Therefore, he had no corrupt motive. His exact words were:
“If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment.”
We have now crossed over in to a world of executive power unseen before. In my last piece, “And The Winner is…” I quoted something from Douchawitz’s 2018 book that is worth mentioning again:
“Assume Putin decides to ‘retake’ Alaska, the way he ‘retook’ Crimea. Assume further that a president allows him to do it, because he believed that Russia has a legitimate claim to ‘its’ original territory.”
Don’t be surprised to see The Don standing on the steps of the White House summoning China to interfere in our election. Oh I forgot, he already did that for all the world to see.
With the Senate’s abdication, the man who would be king just moved closer to the throne. From up high he will be even a more formidable opponent in the upcoming election. He will create an election reign of terror we have never seen before. And if we, the people, are not prepared, and he is victorious, then you ain’t seen nothing yet!
