The Great American Blow Job

With black football players taking a knee during the National Anthem and women posting about their experiences of sexual harassment and violence on a site called “Me Too,” the country has been moved in to a heightened state of awareness and dialogue about two essential issues that eat at the moral fiber of our nation: racism and sexual assault.

The revelations about Harvey Weinstein’s predatory behavior has been disturbing but not shocking (at least not to me); nor were the revelations about Bill O’Reilly, Bill Cosby and the number of high powered men at high profile companies.

For us humans, power and abuse are just a disturbing fact of life. That’s why taking a knee and the Me Too movement are so important. Awareness and accountability is essential for real change to occur.

The embrace of White Supremacy, exemplified by the events of Charlottesville, police brutality targeting African Americans, the building of the prison industrial complex, the attempt, through a variety of ways, to make it more difficult for blacks to vote are deeply disturbing but sadly not surprising. It is as American as apple pie.

Sex and sexual fantasies are an essential component of our lives. Heterosexual men have sexual fantasies about women they find attractive; gay men and lesbian women have fantasies about the same sex, trans people, genderqueer people have their fantasies as well. On a biological level, attraction, desire and fantasy are wired in, sexual assault and rape aren’t!

Black men in the NFL protesting against police brutality by taking a knee during the National Anthem, is an expression of protest of a system that systematically dehumanizes blacks through racist oppression. The right to protest embodies the most cherished element of our democracy: free speech; yet white people in power want to suppress it by claiming it is un-American.

These two movements, which are empowering women and blacks to protest against the abuse of power, are juxtaposed against the disturbing reality of a president who is both, Predator and Racist-in Chief. If you recall, over 60 million Americans voted (and 53% of white women!) for the great swamp drainer who turns out to be the most virulent creature to ever occupy the swamp.

Those voters embraced a man known to display sexually predatory behavior and an unabashed racist.

After bold condemnations of the president from John McCain, Jeff Flake and Bob Corker we thought maybe this was the watershed moment and that the morally bankrupt republicans would do some soul searching. Even George W. put down his paint brushes to weigh in on how The Don’s vision and actions were an anathema to our fundamental values.

So what did the Republicans do? They banded together like soulless brothers (and a few sisters) and doubled down with the president.

Lindsey Graham’s comment about what Flake, Corker and McCain had to say about The Don,  paired down to its essence was,  I love you guys but shut the fuck up. It reminded me of the Catholic Church doing its morally bankrupt best to protect perpetrating priests. Amen, for the band of brothers!

Band of Cowards

To show their solidarity the Republican senators had a lunch and  had a kumbaya moment when they gave the president a standing ovation! They embraced the race baiting, sexual predator whose lack of intelligence, disregard for the rule of law and moral turpitude debases our country on a daily basis. They are colluding with him the same way a parent colludes with their spouse who is abusing their child and says nothing. (Or, like Quentin Tarantino and many others, in the case of Harvey Weinstein.) Ultimately, their inability or refusal to protect the vulnerable makes them almost as guilty as the perpetrator.

In the case of the Republicans, it is not only collusion but prostitution as well. They want their tax cut and will do anything to get it. For a bunch of homophobes, it is titillating to think of them down on one knee, saying Me too! In other words, they are engaged in The Great American blow job!

Those of you who have given or received blow jobs know that everyone has their own style, and that goes for Republican law makers and cabinet members.

So here goes:

First I will start with what I will call fellatio interruptus: those who were on the verge but turned away:

John McCain: The McCain Mutiny

Jeff Flake: The I Flaked out.

Now on to the “all in” sycophants:

Lindsay Graham: His recent full throated endorsement earns him the: The Full Monty.

Paul Ryan: I have waited all my life for this yummy tax cut earns him: Swallow it whole!

“I’ll do anything you want for a tax-cut”

Chuck Grassy: Russia, phooey! Let’s do it on the grass on one of your golf courses earns him: Got some club there, Mr. President.

Deven Nunez: I will do anything for you Mr. President earns him: The Dog and Pony.

John Kelly: I used to be a man of integrity, the man standing between you and chaos but nothing wrong with getting on my knees once in a while earns him: The Yes Sir!

As for The rest of the Republican crew they are all lining up chanting: Me Too,Down on one knee; Me too, Down on one knee.

One by one they approach The Don in his golden chair and and bathrobe and beg: “Please don’t primary me, Mr. President.

The Don smiles  mischievously and says:  That’s something you got to take up with Steve Bannon. He’s in the next room and I heard he’s pretty kinky!
